Many thanks to Canada’s Minister Defence, Harjit Sajjan, PC OMM CD MP, for making a special visit with our cadets prior to the Remembrance Day event at Memorial Park last week. A strong advocate for the cadet program, Minister Sajjan delivered remarks on the theme of “courage”, observing that great acts of bravery take place in many places and in many different ways. He encouraged cadets to continue to find ways – big or small – to be courageous in their lives and in service to their community.

Following his remarks, during which he presented RSM Dimalanta with a special Minister’s medallion, the 72nd proudly marched to the cenotaph at South Memorial Park for the Remembrance service. Air Cadets from the 888 Avenger corps, the Vancouver Police Cadets, the VPD Marching Unit, VPD Mounted Squad, BC Sheriffs, Scouts Canada, Guides Canada, and Sea-Dragon Sea-Scouts also participated in the event.

Seaforth cadet Cpl Sarah Haussmann provided an excellent reading of John McCrae’s “In Flanders Fields” during the service.
